WHO’S BEHIND THE COUNTER?
One of the great forgotten parts of ecommerce, and of the web world in general, is the “about us” page. Because of laziness or because they don’t give it much importance, most companies leave this section a bit parked, including the typical brief explanation about what they do, or referring directly to the contact page.
This is a mistake that is paid dearly. Why? Well, because in a world where there are tens of thousands of ecommerce, the “about us” page is the main mean for a customer to find out who you are. Just look at the statistics of your online store and you’ll see that it’s one of the pages with more visits from new users. It’s your business card, and even if you don’t pay much attention to it, your customers will.
On a website, the “about us” page tells us what the site is about, the topics it talks about, the date it was created and basically it is shown as an introduction to the readers. In an ecommerce, it also offers information about the site, but in this case with a much more professional touch and a more commercial approach. Here we want to present you the most important elements that the “about us” page should include.
Keep in mind though that this is not a bible. Depending on your specific industry you may want to include something else.
Mission or vision
This is a section in which the Ecommerce company describes the mission or vision it has regarding the business it offers to customers. In most cases, an ecommerce site will have a mission to offer an unparalleled selection of products and services, an unparalleled shopping experience, and exceptional customer service.
Extensive product selection
The site should also show the consumer that you have an extensive catalog of products in the appropriate categories. Make it clear to them what kind of products they can buy and that you are constantly expanding your selection to offer more variety.
Characteristics of the shipment
Something fundamental is to mention how the shipment of the products that are purchased online is made: whether you offer free shipping to anywhere in the world, the shipping companies used, delivery times, guarantees, etc.
Consumer protection
Many Ecommerce usually include this section in their about us page, in which they mention the comprehensive guarantees they offer to consumers regarding refunds, repair or replacement of products.
Also, don’t forget to talk about customer service and all the ways in which the consumer can contact the company to solve their doubts or problems. It’s also a good idea to add a brief tutorial explaining the procedure to buy in the store. And, for God’s sake, don’t be shabby, make all this accessible and attractive, and not like some kind of hyper-bureaucratic “complaints page”.
